Rest is not something you have to earn

Rest can bring up guilt
If you have spent years feeling behind, rest can feel unsafe. You might stop and immediately think of everything you have not done. You might only allow yourself to pause once you have “earned it”.
But bodies and minds are not machines. Needing rest is not a weakness. It is information.
Neurodivergent tiredness can run deep
Tiredness is not always about sleep. It can come from sensory overload, masking, decision fatigue, emotional labour, transitions, social effort, or trying to manage a world that asks you to work against your own rhythms.
Naming this can be a relief. You are not lazy. You may be carrying more than people can see.
Make rest easier to access
Rest does not have to look peaceful from the outside. It might be lying under a blanket, sitting in the car before going inside, turning the lights down, cancelling a plan, or doing something repetitive with your hands.
The question is not, “Does this look like rest?” The question is, “Does this help my system soften a little?”
